Mary-Jean's Masterclass

Mary-Jean Caldwell is a Musical Theatre performer from Leicester who developed a passion for musical theatre at a very young age. Growing up, she was involved in many local productions at Curve Theatre, and spent her formative years training at local theatre groups including Stars Performing Arts and Leicester Theatre Group. At 16, Mary-Jean was accepted into the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts to study Musical Theatre for two years, before progressing to The Guildford School of Acting (GSA) to finesse her skills and learn from some of the best tutors in the country, receiving the Ian Fleming scholarship award whilst training and graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Musical Theatre.

Mary-Jean has gone on to perform in numerous productions and concerts, her main credits include the UK tour of Les Miserables, in which she played the factory girl and covered the role of Fantine. She spent last year in Heathers the Musical at The Other Palace in London, and was delighted to be in the Heathers The Musical Pro-shot, which is now available on Amazon Prime.

Alongside performing, Mary-Jean is a passionate teacher and conducts workshops across the UK in all aspects of the performing arts. As well as teaching regularly at a stage school in London she has a successful online singing business, coaching students at every level from all over the world. She began giving online lessons during the pandemic when theatres were shut, and has rapidly seen her business go from strength to strength since then.

Mary-Jean feels extremely grateful for her journey so far, and is especially excited to come back to Leicester to use her teaching skills and extensive knowledge of the industry to help develop the next generation of East Midlands talent. Her mantra is always to combine professionalism with fun, to bring out the absolute best in her students, whatever their skill set and level, and to encourage each to reach new heights of performing, all through a set of totally engaging, confidence-boosting and highly enjoyable sessions.
